My deepest sympathy to all James’s family and friends.
James was simply the best of men. My best drinking buddy. So many of my best times were spent with him. So many great memories.
It is no surprise to see the tributes above evidencing how much he was loved and respected but I suspect we all know he was also deeply private and kept the different parts or his life separate. I expect this page is about to be overrun with condolences from his many many friends in Mensa. He was loved by everyone.

I had the privilege to talk to James a few times, he was a regular guest to the same international events for our association as I was.
Always keen on discussing the world, politics and food, he was a regular visitor at the late evening gatherings after a conference day. I'm sad he passed away at such a young age and send my condolences from Finland to his family and friends. May he rest in peace.

I was lucky enough to know James for the last 10 years or so. I so wish he could have been a friend from my earliest years. He was a superstar of convivial company, full of energy and stories, and game for anything. And he did it all in spite of everything he was going through. What a star. And I'm sure that his soul is already one of those very very bright stars twinkling in the sky above my house here in Suffolk. Rest in Peace James, you truly deserve to. Except that we'll be expecting you there in spirit on every pub crawl from here to eternity. And I know you'll be there.

I cannot imagine a single Mensa event without his cheerful face and our shared passion for being the last ones to leave. I am devastated and can only imagine the pain his family and closest friends must be in. He will be sorely missed! He was one of those very few people everybody liked. RIP.

Very sad to hear of James’s passing. I went to the London Mensa meet-ups a few times, some of those times I was feeling sad, shy, insecure, and James was always warm and welcoming to put me at ease and introduce me around. This must be such a difficult loss for his close friends and family. Thinking of you.
