Bernadett Church Project:
Eurotech proudly completed the instalation of sustainable heating to St. Bernadett Church, Clogher Road. Renewable energy heat pumps replace oil and gas boiler systems, to significantly reduced the carbon footprint, increase comfort and create a sustainable future for this historic place of worship.
Objective:
- Stop burning oil and gas permanently on site to benefit the environment.
- Remove the 300-kW gas/oil boiler and 1,500L oil tank from site.
- Create luxurious comfort in occupied area and stop heating the roof space.
- Heat newly constructed walk through Baptismal Font using renewable energy.
- Create multiple heating zones to restrict heating to areas being used.
- Avoid removing old asbestos tiles, to saving €100,000 on disposal charges.
Technical Solution:
- primary heating energy cut from 300 kW to 24 kW (Energy reduction 92%).
- Eurotech Eco4 Light radiant floor heating fitted over existing floor.
- Intelligent control created 8 control zones to optimize comfort and efficiency.
Performance:
- Seasonal operating efficiency achieved is 420% using two Air Force heat pumps.
- CO2 emissions reduced by 87% using renewable energy.
- Heating cost minimum reduction, approximately €50 per day.
Implementation Details:
- Removal of all internal furniture and cleaned existing PVC floor tiles.
- Removed Altar, Lectern and Font to clear the Sanctuary.
- Inserted submersible baptism fount into existing concrete floor.
- Fitted Eco4 Light radiant floor heating system over existing floor, no demolition.
- Connected two 50kW heat pumps using insulated piping and thermal buffer.
- Heated Church & 1,500L Baptismal Font using renewable energy heat pumps.
- Created a transparent entrance draught lobby to cut heat loss.
- Amazing Iconic wall behind the Altar to focus attention on the Altar.
