That's an almost 12% decrease on 2018, when 268 people in the region received fines.
Last year, 236 motorists in Cavan-Monaghan were fined a combined €18,120.

However, 2019 saw a 15% increase in the number of people breaking that law nationwide.
More than 6,000 motorists being punished for driving a car that wasn't roadworthy - an offence that carries a penalty of at least three penalty points and a minimum fine of €60.
