Monaghan County Council has today published a notice proposing the removal of the building from the list of protected structures.

At this month's meeting of the county council the executive stated a plaque would be erected to recognise the birthplace, however, Sinn Féin's Seán Conlon said he wanted research done into reports that Charles Gavan Duffy had been involved in the slave trade before this was done.

More information on the proposal can be found here.
