The Bishop-elect of Kilmore has chosen his coat-of-arms following his recent appointment.
Father Martin Hayes was appointed to the position at the end of June and takes over from Bishop Leo O'Reilly, who retired at the end of 2018.
In a custom dating to the mid-twelfth century, most bishops adopt a coat-of-arms which includes elements that hold personal meaning to the Bishop.
On the left of Bishop Martin's coat-of-arms is a representation of the Kilmore crest.
On the right is an anchor surrounded by grain and grapes, a personal expression of Bishop Martin's of how the Church is anchored in faith and invited to be a part of the Trinity through the Eucharist.
The Ordination Mass for Bishop-elect Martin Hayes takes place this Sunday at 3pm in the Cathedral of Saints Patrick and Felim and will be broadcast online at northernsound.ie
