Call for car registrations to be printed on fast food bags

Fast food litter has been cited as a problem across the country.

A Fine Gael senator wants car registration numbers to be printed on drive-thru food bags, to hold litterbugs accountable.

Fast food giant McDonalds previously rejected the suggestion, claiming it would be in breach of data protection laws.

Tidy Towns groups across Cavan and Monaghan have frequently called for something to be done to tackle littering across the region.

Senator John McGahon from Louth plans to bring this proposal to the chair of the Oireachtas Climate Action Committee later today:
