Two Monaghan Councillors have called for trail cameras to be inserted in Rossmore Park to deter possible vandalism of the playpark fencing.
Councillors David Maxwell and Raymond Aughey say the cameras would also offer peace of mind for parents who take their children to the popular park.
Councillor David Maxwell told the Monaghan MD Meeting that a quad is thought to have been involved in the removal of one of the fencing panels around the playpark.
He asked for trail cameras to be inserted to act as a deterrent to potential vandalism, and said these cameras may be able to avoid the barriers that have held up CCTV proposals elsewhere in the county.
Councillor Raymond Aughey noted that there are "numerous" holes in the fencing, which could make it difficult for parents "to keep an eye on their children".
Both councillors brought forth the proposal, which was supported by Sinn Féin's Cathy Bennett.
However, Monaghan MD Co-Ordinator, Donal McElwain, said a lot of the issues with the fencing is down to "wear and tear" and the Council will seek to strengthen the panelling used.
He added that "temporary measures" have been taken regarding holes in the fencing.
Councillors also raised issues with car parking, with Sean Conlon stating that there is a "palpable need" for more parking.
Mr McElwain said extending car parking is not possible due to restrictions on taking more trees from the area, but councillors Raymond Aughey and Paudge Connelly responded that there are grassy areas that could be used that wouldn't require the "removal of a single tree".
Donal McElwain said he would raise this with Coillte and investigate the proposal.
