There have been calls for information to be circulated in different languages throughout meat factories in the region.
This follows data showing that 103 people in the last week of May in meat factories had tested positive for Covid 19, which brought the total to 925 confirmed cases in factories nationwide.
Local Senator, Robbie Gallagher, says that more needs to be done by the government and HSE to provide factories owners with the appropriate means of communicating with all factory workers, regardless of nationality, to prevent a further spread of the virus.
He says that these employees need to be made aware of the symptoms of Covid-19, as well as their rights should they have to cocoon, and the importance of contact tracing.
Speaking to Shannonside Northern Sound Senator Gallagher emphasized the need to learn from the mistakes made in nursing homes. He feels that factory workers are doing what they can but they now need assistance form the government to circulate the information in a number of languages.
