"Cancel culture" has hit the Church says local councillor

Sarah O'Reilly says it's difficult to understand why some ceremonies have been suspended.

"Cancel culture" has hit the Church, according to a Cavan councillor.

Aontu's Sarah O'Reilly says "the usual suspects" have been affected, as communion, confirmation, and baptism ceremonies are suspended due to concerns over the Delta variant.

There had been confusion after the Tanáiste said they were off but there was no official update on the Government's website.

A government spokesperson says they are all postponed following NPHET advice and the website will be updated soon.

Councillor O'Reilly says she feels sorry for children and their families who have been "hit with a bolt from the blue".

She added that it's difficult to understand why Mass for 50 people is acceptable, but Mass for 50 people receiving communion for the first time isn't:
