The Cathaoirleach of Cavan County Council has warned that broken glass is increasingly becoming a problem in town centres. Aontú Councillor Sarah O'Reilly says

The Cathaoirleach of Cavan County Council has warned that broken glass is increasingly becoming a problem in town centres.

Aontú Councillor Sarah O'Reilly says the current covid-restrictions may be contributing to the issue as more people are drinking at home.

The need for bottle banks to be emptied more frequently has been consistently raised at local authority meetings in the Northern Sound region.

Councillor O'Reilly told a recent Bailieborough-Cootehill MD meeting that dogs are particularly at risk and that she knows of some pets that have required treatment after stepping on broken glass.

She urged people to be mindful of the problem their waste can create:
