Confinement of poultry measures lifted in Cavan and Monaghan

The precautionary measures in Cavan and Monaghan have been in place since late last year.

Precautionary measures for the confinement of poultry in Cavan and Monaghan
have been lifted.

Emergency regulations were introduced across the country in December to
control the spread of avian influenza in captive birds and poultry.

The Department of Agriculture confirmed farmers can allow birds outdoor
access as of yesterday, however they must continue to follow strict
bio-security measures.

The ban on bird gatherings, marts and other assemblies for show or sale
remains in place.

There have been 28 confirmed cases of the H5N8 strain in Ireland since last
November, but none since February 16th.

Cavan and Monaghan are among the eleven counties where this strain has been
detected in wild birds.
