Local dog owners have been reminded of the need to control their dogs at all times, following recent sheep attacks in county Monaghan.

There were three sheep attacks reported to the Monaghan Dog Warden in January, and two of these incidents occurred within the space of 24 hours.

Brendan Smyth, the county's veterinary officer, says these attacks cause great cruelty to sheep and lambs, as well as serious financial losses for the farmer.

He's appealed for dog owners to ensure their dogs are licenced, tagged, microchipped, and kept under control at all times.
