€7 million has been announced for the Ulster Canal restoration project.
€6 million of that will be spent on works between Clones and Clonfad on the Fermanagh border.
The funding was announced at today's meeting of the North-South Ministerial Council.
In June 2018 plans for a marina and the restoration of the Ulster Canal at Clones were announced.
Today €6 million for the project has been allocated, which is the second phase of the Ulster Canal restoration.
It will see the construction of a marina beside the Canal Stores and the restoration of the section from Clones to Clonfad.
Work is expected to begin early next year and be complete by summer 2023.
€1 million has also been set aside for a feasibility study and engineering works on the section from Clonfad to Castle Saunderson.
Works here would connect the first and second phase of the restoration, allowing travel from Clones to Castle Saunderson.
