Hundreds attended anti-racism protests in Cavan and Monaghan yesterday.

The vigils were organised after the death of George Floyd in US police custody last month.

Those in attendance were calling for an end to racism here in Ireland and the closing of direct provision centres across the country.

Around 150 attended each protest at Cavan Courthouse and McNally's carpark in Monaghan town.

There was criticism of the events going ahead during the Covid-19 restrictions but organisers said social distancing would be encouraged.
