A local funeral director is appealing to families and media outlets not to publish wake details. This comes following concerns over a number of outbreaks

A local funeral director is appealing to families and media outlets not to publish wake details.

This comes following concerns over a number of outbreaks of Covid-19 associated with funerals over recent weeks.

Colm Kieran, a member of the Irish Association of Funeral Directors and a funeral director based in Kingscourt, says that the services are not the problem, with most churches adhering to the 25 person limit, it’s the gathering for wakes that’s causing the issue.

He says that families have sometimes put pressure on funeral directors to publish these wake notices which in turn puts pressure on people to attend.

Colm is urging all concerned to refrain from publicizing these details, and in particular wants media outlets to exercise editorial control:
