Three local photographers have made the shortlist in a national astrophotography competition.
Photos taken by Aaron Kelly from Ballyjamesduff, Dara Callinan from Virginia and Paul Smith from Shercock are included in the Reach for the Star competition run by the Dublin Institute for Advanced Studies.
The public vote for the competition has opened and it and the votes of a judging panel will decide the overall winner which will be announced at the end of May.

Over 170 entries have been shortlisted this year.
The competition aims to showcase the best astro-photograhs taken in Ireland, while also marking the 80th anniversary of the DIAS.
