A local TD has claimed that traders from Northern Ireland are travelling to Cavan to sell coal and briquettes for cheaper than local suppliers.
Pauline Tully told the Dáil that no one is monitoring sellers travelling from Northern Ireland and this is hitting local businesses.
She said those registered in the south must pay carbon taxes but those who are based in the north do not.

She called for an all-island approach to carbon taxes and climate measures because revenue for businesses and the Government through taxation are suffering.
Deputy Tully also said peat and briquettes are being imported into Ireland since peat harvesting by Bord na Móna ceased, which in turn is creating more carbon emissions:
