Minister says community will be listened to on proposed merger of west Cavan schools
Minister Norma Foley at the Holy Family School in Cootehill.

The plans have been met with widespread opposition since they were first announced in 2019.

The Education Minister says the views of the local community will be listened to with regard to the proposed merger of St Bricin's and St Mogue's Colleges in west Cavan.

CMETB put forward plans to merge the two schools onto a new campus in Ballyconnell.

However, the plans have been met with widespread opposition since they were first announced in 2019.

Norma Foley was speaking on a visit to Cavan yesterday, where she said the views of all involved in projects are listened to, including the local community, students, parents and the ETB.

And she said she would be happy to look at any other proposal from the ETB.

It emerged in February that the Department of Education has engaged consultants to identify a possible site for the new school.
