Monaghan County Council pass motions calling for the undergrounding of North-South Interconnector

Monaghan County Council has passed motions from several parties calling for the undergrounding of the North-South Interconnector. Fine Gael's Sean Gilliand and Fianna

Monaghan County Council has passed motions from several parties calling for the undergrounding of the North-South Interconnector.

Fine Gael's Sean Gilliand and Fianna Fáil's Seamus Coyle had similar motions passed seeking a meeting with the newly appointed Minister for Communications, Eamon Ryan.

Meanwhile, Sinn Féin's Noel Keelan also had a motion passed which called on the Taoiseach, Michéal Martin, to outline what his government will do to ensure that the interconnector is undergrounded.

Councillor Keelan says that the undergrounding of the project is the "only method that has community acceptance" and added that the project won't be delivered unless it is undergrounded.

He told Shannonside Northern Sound that the government has a responsibility to avoid "ugly confrontations" over the project:
