A local Leaving Cert student says many staff and pupils "didn't feel safe" about a potential return to school on Monday.

Schools are set to remain closed for the rest of the month, while social education needs will be given special consideration.

Meabh Cusack, a student at St Louis' Secondary School in Monaghan Town, also called for clarification to be offered in relation to Leaving Cert examinations.

Taoiseach Michéal Martin says it is the Government's intention for Leaving Cert exams to be "conducted along traditional lines".

While Meabh says she can appreciate arguments in favour of keeping schools open, she told The Wider View that maintaining social distance in some schools is "virtually impossible" and would lead to an increase in Covid-cases:
