The incoming Bishop of Kilmore says he hopes to see more involvement of communities in the running of their parishes and the Diocese. Tipperary native

The incoming Bishop of Kilmore says he hopes to see more involvement of communities in the running of their parishes and the Diocese.

Tipperary native Fr Martin Hayes will be ordained in Cavan on Sunday after Pope Francis announced his appointment as the new Bishop at the end of June.

He replaces Bishop Leo O'Reilly who resigned last year.

Fr Hayes says in the past Priests were seen as "being on a pedestal" in parishes but he hopes to see more community oriented parishes going forward.

In the Diocese of Cashel and Emly where he is currently based, Fr Hayes led a "listening process" among communities and priests.

Speaking to Shannonside Northern Sound News, Fr Hayes said he expects to see more lay people involved in the running of the Diocese:
