NI lockdown restrictions extended to March 5th

The Covid-19 restrictions in Northern Ireland are to be extended to March 5th. The Stormont Executive approved the change at its meeting this afternoon.

The Stormont Executive approved the change at its meeting this afternoon.

Restrictions are to be reviewed on February 18th, however it's unlikely any major changes will be made then.

The meeting was told the restrictions may need to be in place until after Easter.

Schools in Northern Ireland remain closed but a proposed date for their reopening is to be brought to next week's meeting of the Executive.

Meanwhile, there are 732 new cases of Covid-19 in Northern Ireland, and 21 additional deaths.

16 of the deaths took place in the space of 24 hours.

There are 806 people in hospital with the virus, which includes 70 in intensive care.

The total number of cases in the North now stands at 98,351.
