Repair works carried out in Monaghan education campus following gas leak

Repair works have had to be carried out in an education campus on the outskirts of Monaghan Town following a gas leak.

At around 9 this morning, Monaghan Fire and Civil Protection was alerted to reports of a possible gas leak in the general area of Monaghan Institute of Technology campus at Knockaconny.

Fire appliances from Monaghan Fire Station responded to the incident, and fire crews wearing breathing apparatus and using gas detection equipment identified the source of the gas leak and isolated the supply.

Gas engineers attended the site and carried out the necessary repair works.

Adjoining buildings on the campus were also checked using gas detection equipment and ventilated for a period of time as a result.
