A local residents’ group has criticised the decision of mining company Gyproc not to provide full GAA facilities in the Magheracloone area.
The company is to lodge an application for a new pitch, dressing rooms and parking in the parish after the former facilities were condemned after the collapse of an underground mine almost two years.
It has notified local residents that it intends to submit the planning application shortly.
However, Gyproc has confirmed the application does not include the replacement of further club facilities or the community centre.
Chair of the Drumgossett/Knocknacran Residents’s Association Bernie Collins says some in the community are concerned the replacement of those facilities could be included in an application for a new open cast mine in the area.
This would mean the approval of the new facilities would only be granted in conjunction with approval for the new mine.
