Showband legend and Cavan native Jimmy Smith has died aged 83.
The Ballyhaise man passed away yesterday.
He was one of the founding members of The Mighty Avons and the band found success both at home and in the UK, with their 1965 hit "Lovely Leitrim" spending four weeks at number one in the Irish charts.

Jimmy also pioneered the hugely successful "Treble TR" pirate radio station, which specialised in Country and Irish music.
Martin Donohoe, of the NYAH Comhaltas, hailed Jimmy as a "great entertainer" and a "legend in the music world":
