Storm Aiden is leaving for strong winds and heavy rain across the region.

Storm Aiden hit the south coast overnight and is heading westwards across the country.

A number of weather alerts are in effect across the country with extremely windy conditions expected for the rest of the day.

The Shannonside Northern Sound region will see the brunt of these windy conditions throughout the morning and afternoon.

Cathal Nolan from Ireland's Weather Channel says winds in excess of 100 and 110km per hour are forecasted in exposed areas of the region.
