A tender has been issued to progress the redevelopment of Dublin Street in Monaghan town.
Earlier this month over €27 million was announced for Cavan and Monaghan towns by Housing Minister Darragh O'Brien which included the Dublin Street scheme.
The proposed project will implement the Dublin Street and Backlands Regeneration scheme with over €13 million going towards the project.
This will include opening the street into another new civic space to include shops, offices and a hotel, as well as the demolition of Number 10 Dublin Street, where prominent Irish nationalist Charles Gavan Duffy was born.
Discussions have already taken place in relation to the birthplace of Charles Gavan Duffy with a report previously commissioned by the Council finding the building was of "little architectural significance".
There were no objections among council members to its demolition as part of the wider project and redevelopment.
Monaghan County Council is now seeking tenders to carry out ground investigation works that provide geotechnical information on the nature of the underlying ground conditions.
The successful contractor will also have to gauge or confirm the extent of underground services at specified locations.
The closing date for applications is the 2nd of April at 4pm.
