Monaghan-based Garda Eve McCrystal and Katie-George Dunlevy have claimed a silver medal for Ireland in the B 3,000m individual pursuit at the 2020 Tokyo Paralympics.
The pair showed incredible speed in their qualifying round to set a new world record of 3.19.946 seconds, which set up an opportunity to race for gold in the medal race.
However Great Britian’s Lora Fachie and Corinne Hall broke that record with a superior final run which saw them finish ahead of the Irish duo and take gold.
It’s still a phenomenal achievement for the pair especially when they’re better known as road racing specialists.
President Michael D Higgins led the outpouring of praise on Twitter, describing their achievement as "remarkable".
