Last Saturday, Scotstown began the defence of their Monaghan senior football title with a 3-17 to 2-10 victory over Magheracloone.
On Sunday, last year's beaten finalists defeated Clontibret 1-12 to 2-8 where a Paul Finlay goal proved decisive for the hosts.
Elsewhere, Latton O'Rahilly's were too strong for Monaghan Harps winning 3-13 to 1-11 while Inniskeen defeated Carrickmacross 0-14 to 0-8.
