While it was opening day defeats for both Cavan and Monaghan in the Allianz National football league, a number of positives could be taken from their encounters with Fermanagh and Armagh respectively as the management teams used the fixtures to introduce new blood to their line ups. For Monaghan, Aaron Mulligan who has featured at both Schools and Minor football in the county, was top scorer against the Orchard county finishing with 5 points, while Patrick Lynch began his Cavan senior career with 2 points against the Ernesiders.
Breffni manager Michael Graham noted that the league offered an opportunity for new players to get game time at senior level
Next up for Cavan is the visit of Longford to Kingspan Breffni on Saturday evening, while Monaghan are also out on Saturday when they face Donegal in Ballybofey
